Basic of Educational Science presentation on 28.11 was long and full of information We went through 12 different theorists that they brought with them their ideas and personal experience. Montessori, Bloom, Friere , Kolb, Piaget and many others gave us their contribution to the pedagogy. I am really proud on myself and about my new group (earth): so short notice to invest a lot of energy in a new theorists. Third nowadays learning is so much different of the learning of Montessori´s
time, or Friere or Piaget or Bloom´s time but still their theories can be
applied.
Going through these theorists meant a lot for me: first of all I didn´t have idea that they were so many (and probably we didn´t even touch all of them as deeply we should).
From this experience I pulled out the importance of the environment for the learning and how much the environment influences our learning. Montessori for instance said: "Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment".(Montessori, The Absorbent Mind, Introduction 1949)
How many of us is not able to concentrate while there is tv on? or how many of us is not able to learn cause the environment created by teacher is not suitable for us? What about Friere that he built his Pedagogy of Oppressed on his personal experience from the Great Depression?
This discovered related with other learning experience that I had is logic. The learning is working when the environment is inspiring me and motivated me. If I enhance the process of learning. If I am involve and I can touch with my hands what I am studying.
On other important element about this presentation was again about learning styles and method of learning. Constructivism is good theory but also we have to consider those students that are visual and auditory and that they need to be into the lesson in other ways.
It´s also crucial to consider the role of the society: we all of us are into this society and in this society we experience something.Without a direct experience there is no learning. It´s from reflecting about the experience that we can apply the learning in a different level. (Kolb, Dewey)
The observation and imitation of the behavior is also very important: we do learn also by imitating people and all these experiences will contribute to build our personality.
